BVL Volunteer of the Month
Robert Hodges,
Monmouth County (NJ) USBC BA

Bob Hodges served in the US Army for 20 consecutive years, spanning WWII, the Korean War and including the Viet Nam War, and also spent some time in Japan. He was in Paris as an instructor for many years. He then served in New Jersey as an instructor for radar equipment. He has a Purple Heart and many other awards and medals.

He saw his first bowling alley while on duty in Paris, France in 1956. Bob was asked to join his organization’s intramural bowling league even though he had never bowled before. From that point, on, he has been hooked on bowling.

During Bob’s tours of overseas service, he had opportunities to join other troops being entertained by touring USO (United Service Organization) shows. He says that the Entertainers, going back to Bob Hope and the Andrew Sisters, did so much to lift the morale of US troops. The BVL program is a natural way for Bob to say, “Thank You”.

Bob started this venture as a volunteer for BVL three years ago at the request of President Lou Colucci. During the first year, Bob collected $478 in 2006. In 2007, the number was $1,050. This year Bob was able to collect $1,804.00 by getting bowlers in our tournaments to contribute just $1.00 each. This year he has done the same and has already raised over $400 in a single tournament alone!

We are very proud to have Bob as a member of our bowling association, and very proud of what he has achieved in support of the BVL.

THANKS, Bob, for your commitment and dedication to a very important cause.
